United South Central
District Goal Statements
Developed Fall 2003
The following statements are a combined effort of the USC Board members and an “Ad hoc” committee with members from the community, the staff and the administration. The goal statement is in bold type with further comments in italics.

Goal Statement One
United South Central Schools seek to improve and maintain student performance at all levels in the core curricular areas of reading, writing, math, science, history and the social sciences.

(USC test scores have traditionally been among the highest in our region. A strong curriculum with a logical scope and sequence will keep teachers, parents and students focused on the core areas required by the Minnesota Department of Education and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (No Child Left Behind) of 2002.

Goal Statement Two
United South Central Schools will provide a climate conducive to learning and teaching with an emphasis placed on development of positive character traits in our youth.

(USC schools will model and expect a climate of mutual respect and personal safety among and between staff and students.)

Goal Statement Three
United South Central Schools seek to develop leadership qualities to effectively channel communications throughout the District.

(USC District is made up of several communities and four sites. Accurate information and regular communication needs to occur within the buildings, the District and the communities. Emphasis will be placed on follow through, accountability and District unity.)

Goal Statement Four
United South Central Schools will develop and implement a facilities plan that supports learning and achievement, student programs and support services.

(The district needs renewed financial support from its member communities to upgrade facilities and programs. The district seeks to create an environment for teaching and learning that supports student achievement efforts and student preparation for the challenges of the 21st century.)
